Illustrating the conceptual themes of freedom and oppression through dance. This animation contrasts the free, lyrical movements in contemporary dance with aggressive body language in conflict such as domestic violence, protests, and military suppression.
The links between individual relationship violence and more aggressive societies was a key suggestion in research, and is implied by the contrast between a single figure, duet, and group movements. (‘Half the Sky’ by WuDunn & Kristof, 2009).
This project developed from the ‘Song for Sienna’ test, for a research-based final major project (BA Hons Illustration).
